Father Alvaro Lavin Education and Training Foundation |

Its
mission consists of achieving social integration of
children, young people and adults under conditions of
poverty, extreme poverty and social risk, through education,
work rehabilitation, and training, within an atmosphere
of respect, close support, and Christian formation.
The Foundation takes the name of the Jesuit priest Alvaro
Lavín, who was a close friend and permanent collaborator
of Father Alberto Hurtado, and who was a renown kind,
prudent man devoted to the poor. Priest Alvaro Lavín
passed away on September 14th, 1990.

Hogar
de Cristo created this Foundation in July 1993, guided
by the commitment to social integration of children
and young people deprived from their basic rights.
Different methodological tools are applied towards the
development of technical, cognitive and social abilities
for an adequate social reintegration.
To perform its work, the Foundation has developed the
following programs:

4 Basic Schools –
Prevocational Workshops:
Basic schools with training in basic occupations for
children and young people from 12 to 18 years old. They
are located in La Granja, La Pintana, Renca and Estación
Central, and more than 450 children and young people
with their families are assisted.
• 1
Technical School – Prevocational School
Higher education with training in basic occupations,
for young people graduated from prevocational workshops,
and other young people from the community. It is located
in La Granja, 200 students.
• 1
Special School – Maipo Prevocational Workshops
School for children with slightly to moderate diminished
intellectual capacity. It is located in Buin, 100 children
from Juan XXIII Home, and from the community.

Pope Juan XXIII Home
For children and young people with slightly to moderate
diminished intellectual capacity who have not tuition.
It is located in Buin, and takes care of 80 children
from 6 to 18 years old.
• 1
Educacion - CECREA (Center for the Creation, Development,
and Reproduction of Pedagogical Material) Educational
Department
Technical and pedagogical support to the Foundation
programs in the development and supervision of pedagogical
material suited to the characteristics of the people
assisted.

Center for Formation, Training and Integration into
Workplace - CEFOCAL
It is located in Estación Central, and it provides
training in basic occupations to young people with a
formation program towards micro enterprise.

Agency of Insertion into Workplace - ADIL
This Agency makes contact with different companies and
individuals offering professional practice and/or jobs
to people who have graduated from CEFOCAL, and also
other people referred from Hogar de Cristo.
• 1
Cultural Center – Father Hurtado Arauco Center
It is located in La Granja; it carries out free of charge
artistic and cultural activities for the community.
It has a school, a high school and a technical school.
