Canonization Process

The Canonization Process
When Alberto Hurtado passed away on August 18, 1952, many people felt that they had come in contact with a genuinely saintly man. It was perhaps this widespread feeling that led a foresighted group of Jesuits to save and treasure each of Father Hurtado's belongings.

Lay people and members of religious orders joined around a common cause: That Alberto Hurtado should become a saint for Chile.

On October 16, 1994, His Holiness John Paul II gave the Chilean people the opportunity to rejoice in the beatification of Father Hurtado. After years of research, the process had confirmed that María Alicia Cabezas had been the privileged object of a miracle worked by Father Hurtado.

The canonization process is now underway. Lawyers, doctors, and priests in Rome are examining the various sources of evidence, to prove and confirm whether Alberto Hurtado has again brought about a miracle.

Later, October 23 th,2005, just invested Pope Benedicto XVI, joint to 31 cardinals and hundreds bishops and priests, Chilean dream was reality. Stolen Alberto Cruchaga was declared santo.
